Sending the form to LBA does not constitute permission. A crane operation must only be conducted on receipt of a permit.
Applications should be made at the earliest opportunity.
There are costs associated with short notice approvals.
As an EASA certificated aerodrome, LBA are legally required to protect a number of imaginary 3D shapes around the airfield itself (called the OLS) and a number of shapes that surround the flightpaths (called IFPs) that aircraft take in and out of the airport. These imaginary shapes are protected from obstacles for the purpose of protecting aviation safety.
LBA are permitted to conduct the OLS assessment in-house. The CAA only permit IFP assessments to be conducted by APDOs (Approved Procedure Design Organisations).
LBA has a nominated APDO who conducts IFP assessments where required on our behalf and at a cost detailed below.
Please be aware any crane erected without a positive response received from the CAA or the aerodrome operator may be considered a hazard to air navigation and such a crane operates at the crane user’s risk of endangering the safety of an aircraft.
LBA may attend sites where cranes are erected without notification and are considered hazardous to request they are lowered until it can be determined the crane is safe.
